Knox Raiders Announce Al Westover as NBL1 Women’s Head Coach for 2025/26

Knox Basketball is thrilled to announce the appointment of Al Westover as the Head Coach of the Knox Raiders NBL1 Women’s team for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

A decorated figure in Australian basketball, Al brings a wealth of experience and a history of success to the Raiders. Over his distinguished career, Al has achieved notable milestones, including:

  • 2x NBL Champion (2006, 2008)
  • NBL Coach of the Year (2006)
  • 4x NBL Finals Appearances (Champions in 2006, 2008; Runner-up in 2007, 2009 with the Melbourne Tigers)
  • As Head Coach of the Melbourne Tigers, Al became the second winningest coach in NBL history based on winning percentage over 100 games.
  • SEABL Champion (1989 with Ballarat Miners)
  • VBA Champion (1989 with Ballarat Miners; 1992, 1994, 1997, 1998 with Melbourne Tigers)
  • Big V Champion (2008, 2009)
  • Led Shiga Lakestars (Japan) to the two best seasons in team history (2011–2013), including an All-Star coaching selection in 2011/12.
  • Inducted into the Melbourne Tigers Hall of Fame in 2017.

Al’s coaching career spans decades, from leading Victoria's U20 team to a National Championship in 1994, to achieving success at every level, both domestically and internationally. His winning pedigree and passion for player development make him an exciting addition to the Knox Raiders program.

Al Westover is set to bring his renowned coaching expertise, strategic insight, and commitment to the development of both individual players and the team as a whole. Knox Basketball looks forward to seeing his impact on and off the court and a successful upcoming 2025 for our NBL1 Women’s program.
